ABOUT THE THERAPIST

Samantha Bailes, M.S., CALT is a former Loudoun County Public School teacher and holds a current Virginia teaching license. In addition to her training through the Atlantic Seaboard Dyslexia Education Center (ASDEC), Ms. Bailes earned a Master of Science in Child and Adolescent Psychology.  Ms. Bailes is a member of the Academic Language Therapy Association (ALTA), the International Dyslexia Association, the Virginia Chapter of ALTA, and a member of the Fairfax County Special Education Parent Teacher Association (SEPTA).  Ms. Bailes is the 2019-2020 President-Elect of the Virginia-ALTA organization.

As a parent of three children with special needs, Ms. Bailes is acutely aware of the challenges parents face in securing help for our children.  She has a wide background of experience with special needs students in a variety of school settings including public schools, local private schools, and home school. Ms. Bailes is available to discuss schooling options with families and how Academic Language Therapy fits into their child's educational program.

It is through trying to secure help for her children that Ms. Bailes became aware of the powerful multisensory Orton-Gillingham based Sounds in Syllables program for dyslexia remediation. ASDEC’s training for Certified Academic Therapists requires a minimum of two years and 500 hours of supervised therapy.  In addition to fulfilling ASDEC's rigorous training requirements, Ms. Bailes earned the distinction of Certified Academic Language Therapist (CALT).
